Grid League 2025 – Breakers vs Venom

May 27, 2025

The atmosphere was electric at the Grid League arena as the Palm Beach Breakers faced off against the Las Vegas Venom in what promised to be a test of strength, skill, and strategy. With both teams looking to make their mark in the standings, the stakes couldn’t have been higher as athletes prepared for ten grueling races across various fitness disciplines.

The competition began with Partner Forward, where athletes tackled kettlebell ground-to-overhead movements followed by pistol stick jumpovers. Both teams started evenly, but the Breakers found their rhythm in the third quadrant. A slight misstep from Venom’s Whitney Cutter on the jumpovers opened the door for the Breakers, with Alyssa Martinez crossing the finish line first, though Venom managed to finish within the time cap to secure a point.

The momentum continued in Race 2 as the Mirror event showcased the Breakers’ well-rehearsed transitions. Joshua Newell and Vida Vetterkind established an early lead for Palm Beach, maintaining their advantage throughout despite Venom’s determined efforts to close the gap.

The tide turned briefly in Race 3, the first Ringer Point of the day featuring burpee to ring touches. In a surprising upset, Venom’s rookie Lydia Smith edged out Dylan Fullwood from the Breakers after both athletes experienced falls during their attempts at the challenging height standards.

The fourth race brought the Echo event, featuring barbell squats, dumbbell burpee box overs, double touches, and hang barbell movements. The Breakers dominated both segments of this race, with Joseph Gomez completing all 30 reps to secure the first Echo win and finishing slightly ahead of Dakota Shackleton in the second.

Race 5 saw another Ringer Point battle with triple touches. Venom had to substitute Dakota Shackleton after Dylan Florentine suffered an injury. Despite Shackleton’s longer arms giving him a potential advantage, Kody Schaefer secured the win for the Breakers, though Venom finished within the time cap.

The sixth race featured the Ladder, where athletes attempted progressively heavier lifts for increasing points. Despite strong performances from Venom’s Dan Hardiman and Jasmine Woods, the Breakers’ consistency across all four quadrants resulted in a significant point differential.

Venom found success in Race 7, the Jack and Jill event featuring muscle-ups and backward rolls to support on rings. Alex Smith’s performance on ring muscle-ups and backward rolls helped Venom overcome an early deficit to secure a much-needed win.

The Female Triad in Race 8 highlighted the technical challenges of handstand walking on a ramp. While both teams moved efficiently through kettlebell snatches, bar pullovers, and wall balls, the Breakers’ Sabrina Cheney successfully navigated the handstand ramp while Venom struggled to complete this element before time expired.

Venom responded strongly in Race 9, the Male Triad, with Dakota Shackleton starting fast on kettlebell snatches and Alec Smith performing the handstand element efficiently. Dan Hardiman closed out the race with clean hang squat cleans to secure the win for Las Vegas.

The final race, a Sprint Relay featuring eight different elements, would determine the match outcome. Both teams traded advantages throughout, with standout performances from Dylan Fullwood on legless rope climbs for the Breakers and McKenna Neeb on the strongman throwing sandbag toss for Venom.

When the chalk dust settled, the Palm Beach Breakers emerged victorious with a final score of 20-12 over the Las Vegas Venom. Despite the competitive intensity, both teams displayed excellent sportsmanship after the match, exchanging handshakes and hugs – a fitting end to a showcase of elite fitness and athletic skill.

The Breakers are the official Palm Beach team of the United Grid League.
