From Track Star to Grid League Pioneer: The Rise of Billie Shelton

Billie Shelton is making waves as a rookie with the Palm Beach Breakers in the United Grid League’s 2025 season. Wearing #13 and designated as a “Bodyweight Specialist,” Shelton brings an impressive mix of track and field excellence, CrossFit achievements, and natural athleticism to her professional Grid career.

Long before joining the Breakers, Shelton was turning heads on the track at Hartselle High School in Alabama. As team MVP in her senior year, she claimed fifth place in the state championships for 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.9 seconds. Her athletic versatility showed early, as she competed not only in track and field but also cross country and basketball.

Shelton’s collegiate career began at the University of Mobile, where she quickly established herself as one of the program’s standout athletes. She set the school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a blazing time of 1:04.01 and qualified for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships, finishing 21st. Her impact extended beyond individual events, she was part of two record-setting relay teams, including a 4×400-meter squad that placed 12th at NAIA Indoor Championships with a time of 3:58.83.

After transferring to Utah State University, Shelton continued to excel both on the track and in the classroom, earning academic all-Mountain West honors. Her dedication to academics was clear throughout her college career, as she collected multiple NAIA and SSAC all-academic honors.

The transition to CrossFit revealed another dimension of Shelton’s athletic abilities. In the 2025 CrossFit Open, she ranked 698th worldwide among women and placed 192nd in the North America East region. Her impressive benchmark statistics tell the story of a well-rounded athlete: a 290-pound back squat, 215-pound clean and jerk, and a swift 3:02 Fran time.

Standing 5’3″ and weighing 135 pounds, Shelton’s compact frame houses remarkable strength and speed. Her transition to the Grid League seems natural given her diverse athletic background. She joins a growing contingent of Alabama athletes on the Palm Beach Breakers, including teammates Josh and Shay Newell and Evan Newman.

Recent appearances on the “In Off The Bench” podcast have given fans a glimpse of Shelton’s personality beyond athletics. She’s shown herself to be knowledgeable about Pokemon and Magic, adding depth to her competitive persona.

As Shelton begins her rookie season with the Breakers, her unique combination of track speed, CrossFit conditioning, and bodyweight mastery positions her as an athlete to watch. Her journey from Alabama state champion to professional Grid athlete shows how versatility and dedication can open new paths in the evolving landscape of competitive fitness.

The Palm Beach Breakers have found a promising talent in Billie Shelton, an athlete whose diverse background and proven track record suggest she’ll be making headlines in the Grid League for years to come.
