Christa Devine for the New York Wolves, 2026
New York Wolves, 2026

Christa Devine is a former Division I gymnast at George Washington University, where she was a standout collegiate athlete specializing on uneven bars. After her gymnastics career, she transitioned into CrossFit and has been competing for the past 5 years as an RX athlete and now Masters athlete. Outside of competition, Christa works as a registered nurse, bringing the same focus and dedication to her patients that she does to her training. She now joins the NY Wolves Grid League team as a bodyweight specialist, bringing speed, agility, and precision to the grid.

Hard Bars, Higher Stakes: How a George Washington Gymnast Became a Grid Athlete

The uneven bars were where Christa Devine learned to fly. At George Washington University, she landed a 9.85 on the apparatus as a freshman, the kind of score that catches coaches’ eyes. But after five years competing in CrossFit, from RX division to Masters, Devine realized the Grid demanded something different: not just explosive strength, but the ability to move her own bodyweight with surgical precision. Now a registered nurse in Setauket, the Mt. Sinai native brings that gymnastic foundation to the New York Wolves, where her flexibility and bar work could reshape how the sport approaches bodyweight movements.

Devine was a force in her own right before college. She qualified for Junior Olympic Nationals three times, won the Suffolk County Championship as a junior, and held multiple county records in all-around, vault, and bars. At GWU, she competed in all 13 meets her freshman year, posting season highs of 9.75 on vault and 9.775 on beam while earning second-team all-conference honors on bars. Her twin brother Matt played soccer at Bryant University, giving their household a shared understanding of what elite athletic development looks like.

The transition to CrossFit showed Devine’s adaptability. She spent five years as an RX athlete before moving to Masters competition, a natural progression that required retooling her training philosophy entirely. Unlike gymnastics, where precision and form govern every movement, CrossFit rewards speed and power under fatigue. That context makes her arrival at the Grid meaningful: she’s not learning bodyweight movements for the first time. She’s bringing two distinct athletic languages to a new sport, one that speaks both of them fluently.

For the New York Wolves, Devine represents something the franchise has been building toward: depth in bodyweight specialist roles. Her gymnastics background gives her an edge on bar work that most CrossFit athletes never develop, while her five years in the competitive fitness space means she understands the metabolic demands of intense competition. At 5’4″ and 150 pounds, she’ll operate in a different strength-to-weight category than many Grid athletes, but her record suggests she’s comfortable operating at that edge. The Grid doesn’t care where your power comes from, only what you do with it.
