Eddy Ramirez: Grid League Player Profile

Eddy Ramirez has found his perfect fit as a strength specialist for the Daytona Venom in the United Grid League. Known for his exceptional ring handstand abilities and gymnastic strength moves, Ramirez brings a unique combination of power and precision to the Grid League format.

Currently competing in his rookie season with the Daytona Venom, Ramirez made his mark during the 2024 season opener against the Atlanta Wild. Going by “Eddie G” in competition, he showcased his specialty in ring work and handstand movements, demonstrating why the Venom selected him for their strength specialist position.

Ramirez’s path to the Grid League runs through the CrossFit community, where he has been competing since 2016. His participation in multiple CrossFit Opens helped him develop the varied skill set needed for Grid League success. While he competed as a recreational CrossFit athlete, his focus on mastering specific movements, particularly gymnastics and strength elements, prepared him perfectly for his current role.

Outside the Grid League, Ramirez puts his strength and conditioning expertise to work as an Assistant Athletic Performance Coach at Indiana University. His professional journey includes serving as Interim Head Coach at Franklin Pierce University and working as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at George Mason University. As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S.), he brings deep technical knowledge to both his coaching and athletic careers.

In Grid League competition, Ramirez thrives in his specialized role. His background in coaching elite athletes gives him a unique perspective on movement and performance. During matches, he focuses on the most challenging strength elements, particularly excelling in ring work and handstand movements that require both power and balance.

The 2024 season opener highlighted Ramirez’s technical abilities during the Echo race, where he showed off his signature ring handstands. While the Venom faced tough competition from the Wild that day, Ramirez’s performance demonstrated why specialized athletes are crucial to Grid League teams. His ability to handle complex gymnastics movements allows his teammates to focus on their own specialties, creating a more dynamic and effective team.

As both an athlete and coach, Ramirez represents the evolving face of functional fitness competition. His success shows how athletes can find their niche in the Grid League’s specialized format, even without an elite background in CrossFit or traditional sports. For fans and aspiring Grid League athletes, Ramirez offers a compelling example of how focusing on specific skills can create opportunities in this emerging sport.
