WORLD RECORD WEIGHT, WORLD-CLASS ATHLETE: How Katrina Rasmussen Became a Dual-Sport Champion

Katrina Rasmussen walks into a room and lifts 255 pounds above her head. That single moment, a new Masters world record in the clean and jerk, defines the kind of competitor now suiting up for South Beach Palms in the United Grid League. The 39-year-old from Pleasant Grove, Utah fractured the record books at the 2025 Masters World Weightlifting Championships in Las Vegas, hoisting 116 kg with a combined total of 226 kg, cementing her status as one of the sport’s elite. This wasn’t her first coronation. She claimed the Masters title in 2022. She’s also within five pounds of the world record snatch. Meanwhile, her CrossFit Semifinals ranking of 69th worldwide in the Women 35-39 division proves her versatility extends far beyond the platform.

The path to these heights began elsewhere. Rasmussen built her foundation in gymnastics, then pivoted to CrossFit as an adult athlete. In 2021, she made the deliberate move toward Olympic weightlifting, training at CrossFit Hyperion and launching her own coaching operation, Trina Rasmussen Fitness, where she specializes in Olympic weightlifting, CrossFit, and postpartum conditioning. She didn’t ease into the sport. State records fell. National records fell. By the time she reached the Masters division, she was already a force on the international stage.

Raising two sons while competing at the highest levels demands a particular kind of mental toughness. Rasmussen didn’t abandon one pursuit for another; she stacked them. She competed at the 2025 CrossFit Games Semifinals while maintaining the discipline required for Olympic weightlifting’s technical precision. That duality, explosive power, meticulous mechanics, coachable resilience, translates directly to utility play in the Grid. Her Instagram (@trina.rasmussen) documents an athlete who refuses to pick a lane.

She’s plotting next. Athens, Greece hosts the 2026 Masters World Championships. Rasmussen is already locked in. For South Beach Palms, she brings the credentials of someone who operates at the absolute top of two sports. The Grid has its world record holder.
