Political Candidate, Proud Strength And Conditioning Coach for Goodyear High School, AZ.
Kawika Henderson wears #51 as a Strength Specialist for the Atlanta Wild in the United Grid League. While new to this emerging sport, his extensive background in strength athletics makes him a natural fit for the intense, power-focused competition format. His transition to Grid League represents the latest chapter in a career defined by versatility and athletic achievement.
Henderson’s competitive resume spans multiple disciplines, starting with CrossFit where he competed consistently from 2013 to 2025. His best worldwide Open ranking came in 2017 when he placed 466th globally. He later dominated the Philippines CrossFit scene, ranking first in the Men’s 35-39 division from 2021-2024. His dedication showed in multiple appearances at both Individual and Age Group Quarterfinals, with his highest finish at 53rd worldwide in the 35-39 division.
In powerlifting, Henderson claimed the IPL World Championship in the 198-pound weight class. His strength numbers tell the story: a 655-pound back squat, 425-pound clean, and 635-pound deadlift. Beyond these achievements, he competed as an Elite Strongman and even tried his hand as an NFL Free Agent, posting an impressive 4.59-second 40-yard dash time, remarkable speed for an athlete focused on strength sports.
Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Henderson now calls Arizona home. His parents taught him core values of empathy and compassion, particularly emphasizing the importance of supporting those in need. These early lessons, combined with his Christian faith, continue to drive his approach to athletics and life.
Henderson’s impact extends far beyond competition. As a strength coach, he’s worked with elite organizations including FBI Counter Terrorism, the NFL’s Tampa Bay team, and several MLB franchises including the Brewers, White Sox, Rangers, Rockies, and Dodgers. Today, he balances his athletic career with teaching high school, running a business, and engaging in volunteer work. He’s recently stepped into politics, showing his commitment to community leadership.
Despite his packed schedule, Henderson prioritizes his roles as husband and father. His ability to maintain high-level athletic performance while nurturing family relationships demonstrates his commitment to living a well-rounded life.
Henderson’s path hasn’t been without challenges. He underwent bicep surgery in 2017, followed by two elbow replacements in 2019 and 2020. During this period, he launched “TheROBOComeback” campaign, showing both his determination to return to competition and his openness in sharing his journey with supporters.
Henderson’s story is one of continuous growth and adaptation. From his Hawaiian roots to his current status as a Grid League athlete, he’s shown that athletic achievement can coexist with professional success and family dedication. His journey from strength sport to strength sport, coupled with his commitment to teaching and community service, paints a picture of an athlete who understands that true success extends beyond competition results.
