Marcos Elias Medina has found his home as a Strength Specialist with the Fort Lauderdale Lions, where his raw power and technical precision make him a cornerstone of the team’s success. His 490-pound back squat and 355-pound clean and jerk aren’t just impressive numbers, they translate directly into dominating performances during competition. During the 2023 Championship matches against the Orlando Aces, Medina showed his true value in events like the 500-pound yoke carries, where his combination of strength and speed helped keep the Lions competitive.
The 2022 season saw Medina excel particularly in “Echo” races, where athletes must quickly transition between different workout stations. In a memorable match against the South Beach Palms, he strung together a series of 265-pound snatches and pistol thrusters that earned crucial points for his team. His teammates often praise his ability to maintain perfect form even under intense time pressure.
Before becoming a Grid League competitor, Medina’s athletic journey began on the soccer fields of Walla Walla High School, where he earned All-Conference honors as a senior. His natural athleticism caught the attention of college recruiters, leading to an NCAA career that included Division 1 volleyball at Jacksonville State University from 2018-2019 and Division 2 play at Lynn University from 2020-2021.
The transition to functional fitness came through CrossFit competition between 2016-2018. While his initial results were modest, ranking 92,888th worldwide in the 2016 CrossFit Open, this period helped build the foundation for his current success in Grid League.
Growing up in Milton-Freewater, Washington, Medina’s story is one of small-town determination. His family moved to Walla Walla when he was in eighth grade, where soccer became his primary focus. As a first-generation college athlete, his decision to pursue higher education through sports opened doors that would eventually lead to his professional career.
Today, Medina balances his athletic career with business ownership, running CrossFit Milita where he helps others pursue their fitness goals. His coaching experience extends beyond his gym, he spent over 11 years developing young talent at Wildfire Volleyball Academy. His partnership with brands like Carnivore Snax shows his growing influence in the fitness industry.
During broadcasts, commentators regularly highlight Medina’s efficiency in movement. His background in multiple sports has given him a unique advantage in Grid League, where events can range from pure strength tests to complex gymnastic movements. What sets him apart is his ability to maintain technique even during the most grueling races.
As he continues to develop in the sport, many see Medina as a future MVP candidate. His combination of strength, speed, and technical mastery makes him one of the most well-rounded athletes in the league. With each season, he’s proving that the path from small-town athlete to professional competitor is possible through dedication and versatility.
