I started playing sports at a young age. I was a 5 sport athlete in high school and it transitioned in to me wrestling in college and playing arena football shortly after. Life has thrown a few curve balls at me. I joined the military December 11th, 2011 in pursuit of starting my career just two years into college. While I was on active duty orders In 2014, I was diagnosed with AML leukemia which is a cancer of my bone marrow and I was immediately admitted into the hospital. Shortly after being admitted, I endured complete organ failure which should have taken my life. I was in coma and life support for 18 days, lost 60lbs but then I woke up. I feel like my journey had just begun. I let nothing get in my way. I trained morning and night to get my speed and strength back. I made the Warrior Games team in 2017 for team Air Force and won 3 Gold medals and a silver. Shortly after the Warrior Games I got a call from NBC’s The Titan Games and I competed on season 1, episode 6. I was able to share my story to millions and give people hope and inspiration who needed it. It was such an incredible experience.
After The Titan Games I immediately started my pre deployment orders and after a few short months I got deployed over seas. 3 months later I found out my leukemia had returned and I had relapsed. I then got medically evacuated back to the states and began to get back into remission. Shortly after getting back into remission our next mission was a bone marrow transplant but before I received a transplant, I got very sick from the chemotherapy which led to fungal sinusitis and I found myself back in the ICU and on life support fighting for my life. But I fought for my life and woke up. The only thing I knew was to fight, so that’s what I did. Through this entire process I had still remained in the gym almost daily. I finally had the bone marrow transplant on September 14th of 2019. I competed on team USA at The 2022 Invictus Games and brought home 7 medals. When I got back, I qualified for The DOD Warrior Games and at the Games I wound up winning another 7 medals (4 golds, 2 silvers, 1 bronze) and it was such an incredible experience.
I now compete full time in CrossFit and I compete for a team called The Atlanta Wild and they’re out of the United Grid League.
I’m their utility and strength specialist.
I’m husband and father and I wouldn’t change anything about my life.
Matt Cable brings his elite strength and athletic skills to the Atlanta Wild as their Strength Specialist, wearing #0. As part of the innovative United Grid League where men and women compete together, Cable has found his competitive home. In 2019, Cable competed on NBC’s The Titan Games, where he met his childhood hero Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The experience left Cable starstruck, especially when Johnson hugged him and called him “brother.” His athletic foundation began as a five-sport athlete at Great Falls High School, followed by college wrestling and a stint playing arena football.
Growing up in Great Falls, Montana in a military household shaped Cable’s disciplined approach to athletics. He excelled in multiple sports at Great Falls High School, with football and wrestling standing out among his five athletic pursuits. Cable’s approach to training focuses on overall athletic development rather than specializing in one area. He has competed consistently in the CrossFit Open from 2017 through 2025, maintaining elite-level strength metrics while preparing for Grid League competition. His training philosophy emphasizes being “good at everything overall,” which serves him well in the diverse challenges of Grid League competition.
Cable’s athletic journey has captured media attention across multiple platforms. His appearance on The Titan Games brought national exposure, while features in sports publications and podcast appearances have helped share his story.
