A former U.S. Army Military Police officer, Michael brings discipline, grit, and a love for adventure into everything he does. Now the owner of BlackBear Athletics, he channels that same drive into helping others push their limits through fitness and community. When he’s not in the gym lifting heavy or coaching athletes, you’ll find him on the open road riding his Harley. He loves travel, hates burpees, and believes hard work builds more than just muscle.
Mike Rosa doesn’t hate much. Burpees, though, those he hates. The New York Wolves utility player and owner of BlackBear Athletics in West Babylon makes that abundantly clear. It’s the kind of specificity that defines him: a former US Army Military Police officer who traded uniform for Rogue equipment, now commanding both a CrossFit box and a Grid League roster spot. At 5’11” and 225 pounds of functional muscle, Rosa semi-finaled the CrossFit Games as a team competitor in 2021 and claimed MACC Fest Team Champions honors in 2022. Those aren’t throwaway credentials. They’re proof of what happens when discipline meets intensity.
BlackBear Athletics occupies 411B Lexington Avenue in West Babylon, equipped with the gear that matters, Rogue boxes, platforms, rigs. Rosa runs it with his coaching staff, Jared and Sammy, offering everything from straight CrossFit to Hyrox to sports-specific training in a 24/7 open gym model. He’s CrossFit Level 2 certified. The gym wins because the owner doesn’t cut corners. He also rides a Harley, which speaks to a certain aesthetic commitment most people abandon after their twenties. Instagram followers (@Mrosa516) watch a man who treats both fitness and life as non-negotiable.
His Grid experience isn’t new, Rosa has played the sport before, which matters. The Wolves are getting a re-signing, not a rookie learning the equipment mid-season. East Meadow native, military background, proven competitive record in multiple strength sports. Grid League just got someone who understands that CrossFit conditioning and Grid intensity are cousins. He’ll fit. He’ll compete. And he definitely won’t do a burpee unless the Grid demands it.
Regular season matches Mike Rosa has raced in the United Grid League, by season and team, with season and career totals.
