Ryan Clarke is a Maryland-based athlete, husband, and dad of three. A lifelong athlete, his competitive journey led to a collegiate football career and now to competing at a high level in Crossfit. His favorite movements include anything with a barbell and gymnastics. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and finding new activities to explore outside of the gym.
Ryan Clarke was one of Ithaca College’s top freshmen in 2008, collecting 36 tackles despite missing three games with an injury. By 2009 he was starting at middle linebacker, playing every game and earning Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week honors. The football instincts from those years never left.
His wife Emily dragged him to a CrossFit Open announcement in 2019. He started classes the week after and got hooked. Clarke became a coach shortly after, and together with Emily, he co-founded Blue Crab Fitness in Woodbine, Maryland. The gym sent its first team to the North American East Semifinals, a milestone for the young affiliate.
Born and raised in West Friendship, Maryland, Clarke is a husband, father of three, and a two-time CrossFit team semi-finalist. The Carolina Flight are getting a utility player who understands team dynamics from both the football field and the CrossFit competition floor. The linebacker mentality, reading what’s happening in front of you and reacting fast, translates directly to Grid racing.
