From Olympic Lifts to Grid League Glory: The Rise of Yonatan Restrepo

Yonatan Restrepo has quickly become one of the United Grid League’s most dynamic performers, currently ranking among the top athletes as a Utility Player for the Palm Beach Breakers. His recent Week 2 performance earned him the league’s fifth-highest impact score at 133, showcasing his natural fit in the sport’s innovative “Roll Up” competition format.

But Restrepo’s path to Grid League excellence started long before stepping onto the competition floor. His foundation in Olympic weightlifting gave him the strength and technical precision that would later define his athletic career. As he puts it, “I used to be a weightlifter who fell in love with all kinds of fitness competitions and movements.” This early specialization proved crucial as he expanded into broader fitness challenges.

The transition to CrossFit marked Restrepo’s emergence as a complete athlete. In Colombia, he dominated the national scene, winning the country’s “Fittest Competition” three times between 2015 and 2018. His 2015 victory in the Colombia Box Tour championship established him as the country’s premier CrossFit athlete. By 2018, Restrepo had reached new heights, achieving Colombia’s #1 ranking while placing 1581st worldwide in the CrossFit Games Open.

Standing 5’6″, Restrepo’s compact frame allows him to excel in both strength and gymnastics movements. His years competing in South Regional and Latin American Regional events helped develop the well-rounded skill set that makes him so valuable to the Palm Beach Breakers today.

When not competing, Restrepo channels his passion into coaching and personal training. His approach emphasizes the power of sustained effort, often telling his clients, “I can see how consistency brings results to your goals.” This mindset reflects his own journey from specialist to versatile athlete.

Restrepo’s success stems from an unwavering commitment to growth. “Since I started my fitness career, I have learned to challenge myself and demand more and more from myself through every movement I do,” he explains. This dedication shows in competition, where he continues to push boundaries and set new standards in the Grid League.

His steady progression from Olympic lifting through CrossFit to Grid League competition tells the story of an athlete who never stops evolving. Each chapter of his career builds on the last, creating a competitor who combines technical mastery with competitive fire. For the Palm Beach Breakers and their fans, Restrepo represents the perfect blend of experience, skill, and determination.
