My name is Brett Henry. I’m from Greenwood, Fl, born and raised. I grew up in a working family, so I didn’t have a lot of time for extracurricular activities. However, I did have time for a sport of my choosing.
Brett Henry has carved out a unique path in athletics, moving from baseball to CrossFit and now to the Grid League, where he serves as a Strength Specialist for the South Beach Palms. His journey showcases not just athletic versatility, but the determination to succeed while balancing demanding careers outside of sports.
As the #06 Strength Specialist for the South Beach Palms, Henry has quickly become a key player for the team since their 2020 establishment. What started as a utility role has evolved into a position that maximizes his strength capabilities. His standout moment came during the Championship Event, where he completed a 255-pound snatch in the ladder competition, a performance that earned him a spot in the league’s championship highlights.
The South Beach Palms have made their mark as newcomers to the league, securing an impressive third-place finish that speaks to the collective talent of the team and Henry’s contributions to their success.
Before finding his place in the Grid League, Henry built a solid foundation in CrossFit. From 2016 to 2023, he consistently participated in the CrossFit Open, achieving his highest worldwide ranking of 10,324th in 2020. His dedication to the sport culminated in a first-place finish among men at Marianna CrossFit in 2022, where he would later become Head Coach.
His CrossFit numbers tell the story of his strength: a 350-pound back squat, 285-pound clean and jerk, 445-pound deadlift, and a 235-pound snatch. He can complete the benchmark workout “Fran” in 4:20 and “Grace” in 2:08, with a max pull-up count of 25.
Baseball was Henry’s first love in sports. Growing up in a working family, it was the one extracurricular activity he could pursue. His versatility showed early, as he developed the ability to play multiple positions. However, lumbar scoliosis forced him to abandon his college baseball aspirations, leading him to discover CrossFit.
Raised in Greenwood, Florida, Henry grew up understanding the value of hard work through his family’s business commitments. This upbringing shaped his approach to both athletics and professional life. Until joining the South Beach Palms, his travel experience was limited, he notes that team competitions marked his first trips to Miami.
Henry maintains two demanding careers alongside his athletic pursuits. His primary role in his family’s wholesale distribution business often requires 19-hour workdays, starting before 5 AM and ending around midnight. The COVID-19 pandemic intensified these challenges, particularly in maintaining adequate staffing levels.
As Head Coach at Marianna CrossFit, Henry began by leading Saturday morning classes before stepping into the leadership role when the previous head coach departed. This position allows him to share his passion for fitness while continuing his own training.
Looking ahead, Henry has clear goals: building a successful business and opening his own CrossFit affiliate. These aspirations reflect his entrepreneurial spirit and ongoing commitment to the CrossFit community.
A true multi-sport athlete, Brett Henry represents the modern competitor who can adapt and excel across different disciplines while maintaining a full life outside of athletics. His story isn’t just about athletic achievement, it’s about finding new paths forward when faced with obstacles and building success through consistent hard work.
