Grid League 2026 – Breakers vs Brigade: League Review Awards Palm Beach the Win After a 19-19 Tie

Palm Beach Breakers and Tampa Bay Brigade traded races all afternoon at American Dream in New Jersey and neither side could pull away. The Brigade spent their super wildcard before the first race, swapping Brittany Latham in to take the opening Ringer Point against Breakers rookie Nicky Rodgers, and won it. Palm Beach lost a challenge on the Echo and lost the flag with it. The Jack and Jill went to the Breakers, then went to review, then got rerun, and Tampa Bay took it the second time. Twelve races later the board read 19-19.

The Grid-LOCK that ran out of clock

A tied match goes to a Grid-LOCK, one extra race that settles the winner without adding a point to the score. Palm Beach came off the last element with an eleven-rep lead. The clock expired during the final sprint, before the Breakers could cross, on a race they had run clean.

The cap that stopped them was the general Grid-LOCK time cap from the rulebook, and officials determined it was clearly wrong for that race. A time cap is not meant to decide a cleanly run race. With the broadcast at its hard stop, officials held the tie in the moment and pushed the outcome to a League-wide review.

That review ran on August 18. Teams and officials each gave their account, and the vote came back 8-1 to award the Breakers the match. You can read the full League account.

Palm Beach finished the regular season 2-2 and seeded third in the East. The Breakers play a conference semifinal at the championship on October 3 and 4 in Lakeland.
