FAQ
The GRID player workout e-books are a great way to start to understand how a GRID player physically prepares to play on the GRID.
WHO IS GRID TRAINING FOR?
Athletes that want to try a new form of training that may be better suited to their body type, natural skillsets, training situation, or competitive goals.
They may feel bored or uninspired in their current form of training. They may want to have more fun training and focus on elements they enjoy. They may want to see how far they can go in developing their natural strengths. They may (but not necessarily) aspire to play on a high-level GRID team someday.
WHO IS GRID TRAINING NOT FOR?
Athletes that would like to primarily focus on long-duration metcons or cardio sessions. These types of workouts are not near as common in GRID training.
Each coach is experienced in working with athletes of all levels. Whether you are just starting out and have big goals, or you’re ready to take it to the next level, our coaches are ready to help
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TRACKS?
HOW DOES GRID TRAINING DIFFER FROM TRADITIONAL FUNCTIONAL FITNESS TRAINING?
These forms of fitness tend to focus on all dimensions of fitness and push the athlete toward being well rounded. This means an athlete must focus on their weaknesses to raise them to the level that keeps them from hindering overall performance and making them competitive.
GRID is focused on general skillsets and is not as concerned with overall well-roundedness in terms of fitness. Utility players are well rounded, however, a specific weakness does not limit them and there is still less focus on longer time domains with more emphasis on the sprint or 100% effort.
DOES THIS MEAN YOU TOTALLY ABANDON WORKING ON YOUR WEAKNESSES?
That depends on who you are as an athlete and your goals. Just like a competitive weightlifter or an offensive linemen is less likely to incorporate pull-ups into their program, certain movements or types of workouts may not fit into the ideal specific program for an individual. That said, a utility player in GRID is still very well rounded. It just depends on your body type, your natural skillsets, and where you want to go as an athlete.
BUT, ISN'T IT IMPORTANT TO WORK ON YOUR WEAKNESSES?
For most team sports players in the world? No.
For a functional fitness athlete? Yes. There is nothing wrong with that. In any other sport, an athlete finds the skills they naturally possess that best contribute to a team’s performance (or sport in general) and develop them. GRID is not a fitness regimen, it is a team sport. This program is about training FOR GRID, it is not GRID itself.
WHAT IF I DON'T THINK I AM GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY ON A TEAM?
There are two options for this:
1. Maybe you are selling yourself short. This is particularly true if you are basing this assumption on performance in other sports as GRID allows a very different set of skills to excel. Some of the best GRID players in the world would not be near as competitive in traditional weightlifting, gymnastics, or CrossFit.
2. Just like many people train like an MMA fighter, with no intention to compete at a high level, GRID training may just resonate with you as a better option for you personally to stay motivated and enjoy training.
I enjoy working toward a goal more suited to me. I love CrossFit and will always do some form of it… but as far as that type of competition goes, I know what my limitations are and many are out of my control. With GRID, I can focus on the abilities I have that I enjoy showcasing and make me the best competitor I can be in my own body.
GRID… it’s fun, it’s so energetic, it’s different. It made things fun again. For a long time things were mundane and the grind was kind of getting to me. This brought it back to life for me.
“It’s way more fun to focus on what you’re already good at. Forget the boring bitch work. The family/community aspect of the team bringing people together is awesome.”
“GRID is much more of a sport like football or soccer. It’s more fun then you’ll realize until you play”
