From Fairways to The Grid: Arielle Swan’s Athletic Evolution

Grid League Career

Arielle Swan has quickly made her mark in the United Grid League, signing with the Houston Bandits for the 2025 season as a Utility player. This follows her successful 2024 campaign with the Palm Beach Breakers, where she helped secure multiple victories including an impressive double-header win. As a Utility player, Swan handles both strength elements and gymnastics movements, making her a valuable asset to any Grid team. Her ability to adapt between different roles showcases the athletic versatility she developed throughout her sports career.

Diverse Athletic Background

Before finding her place in the Grid League, Swan carved out a notable career in golf. Playing NCAA Division II golf for Cal State East Bay and later Cal State Monterey Bay, she regularly finished in the top ranks. During the 2013-14 season alone, she achieved five top-20 and three top-10 finishes. Her talent peaked with a career-best round of 70 (-2) at CSU Monterey Bay, one of just three under-par rounds in that tournament. After college, Swan turned professional and continued competing, including an appearance in the 2018 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship where she advanced to the Round of 32.

Swan’s transition to CrossFit brought new athletic achievements. She has qualified for Individual Quarterfinals multiple times, ranking 339th in North America West in 2023 and 439th in 2024. Her strength numbers are impressive, she can snatch 160 pounds, clean and jerk 200 pounds, and back squat around 300 pounds. In 2024, she placed 33rd at the Northern California Classic among elite competitors, proving she could hold her own in high-level fitness competitions.

The Athletic Journey

Growing up in Sunnyvale, California, Swan developed her competitive spirit early. At Fremont High School, she played both golf and water polo, laying the groundwork for her future athletic versatility. The combination of an individual sport like golf with a team sport like water polo helped shape her into a well-rounded athlete who could excel both independently and as part of a team.

Professional Life Beyond Competition

Swan’s impact extends beyond her own athletic achievements. She holds a CrossFit Level 3 trainer certification and a USA Weightlifting Level 1 certificate, credentials that speak to her dedication to proper form and technique. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, she turned her part-time coaching into a full career, leading online classes and helping others discover their potential in functional fitness. She has coached at multiple Bay Area facilities including CrossFit Almaden and Coast Range CrossFit, where she continues to inspire and mentor other athletes.

Personal Life and Character

Despite her intense training schedule, Swan maintains strong connections to her Bay Area roots and family. She is married (taking the name Swan-Hernandez) and is a dedicated pet parent to three animals, Pleakley, Rogue, and Mo. Friends and fellow athletes know her as someone who brings both competitive fire and warmth to the gym, able to push herself through tough workouts while staying approachable and supportive of others.

Impact and Future Prospects

Swan’s path from golf courses to CrossFit boxes to the Grid League shows how athletic skills can transfer across sports. As the Grid League continues to grow, including expansion to new markets like Houston, Swan is positioned to be an influential figure in this emerging sport. Her background in both individual and team athletics gives her a unique perspective that resonates with fans and fellow competitors alike. Whether she’s hitting a golf ball, lifting heavy weights, or competing on the Grid, Swan continues to prove that athletic excellence knows no boundaries.
