I am currently a Kinesiology major with aspirations of getting into dental school. I’m obsessed with Bane and Robert De Niro movies. You can always find me outside hiking, kayaking and more.
Sidney Wilson has emerged as a standout strength specialist for the Atlanta Wild in the United Grid League, recently re-signing with the team for the 2025 season. Her journey from a self-described “chunky, socially awkward” teenager to a powerful competitive athlete showcases both physical and mental transformation through fitness.
Wilson’s decision to join the Atlanta Wild was deeply personal. “I live in metro Atlanta so it only makes sense. My favorite colors are red and black. We just mesh very well,” she explained in a recent interview. She values the family atmosphere of her team, noting that while expectations are high, support remains strong even when mistakes happen.
The upcoming season holds particular excitement for Wilson as she anticipates facing off against one of her idols in the sport, Taylar Stallings of the Aces team.
Wilson discovered CrossFit at age 17, initially seeking weight loss but finding a deeper passion for strength training. Her CrossFit career includes consistent participation in the CrossFit Opens from 2016 to 2023, where she achieved significant rankings. Her strength numbers demonstrate her athletic development, including a 335-pound back squat, 255-pound clean and jerk, 405-pound deadlift, and 205-pound snatch.
Beyond CrossFit, Wilson ventured into bodybuilding, focusing on figure competition. As an Animal supplement brand athlete, she planned her first NPC figure show in 2021. She draws inspiration from figure competitor Dana Linn Bailey, admiring her blend of athletic and feminine physique.
Growing up in Stockbridge, Georgia, Wilson faced early challenges with body image and self-esteem. After quitting softball in high school, she became inactive and gained weight. A particularly emotional moment came during her senior year when shopping for clothes: “I remember crying” when her usual sizes no longer fit.
At 17, Wilson made the life-changing decision to join a local gym. Despite being the youngest member, this step marked the beginning of her transformation journey.
Wilson balances her athletic career with professional growth. She works as a head coach at CrossFit DeVille in Georgia while pursuing education in dental hygiene. Her passion for helping others achieve their fitness goals shapes her coaching philosophy.
Outside the gym, Wilson enjoys visiting live music bars and trying craft beers, particularly raspberry sours and stouts. She spends time hiking with her dog Hendrix, reading historical fiction about World War II, and indulging her interest in comic book characters, especially supervillains like Bane.
Wilson’s story has captured attention across fitness media platforms, from professional profiles to YouTube features. Her message of continuous improvement, expressed through her motto “1% Better Everyday,” resonates with followers. When faced with online criticism, she maintains perspective: “Negative comments come from a place of not understanding and jealousy so I don’t really look too far into it.”
Through her various roles as an athlete, coach, and public figure, Wilson continues to inspire others facing similar challenges to those she overcame. Her ongoing success in the Grid League serves as a testament to the power of dedication and self-belief in achieving personal transformation.
